Panther

Please call our Customer Service Department to get replacement installation/owner’s manuals.

Send an email to us and we should be able to provide you with the proper size screws.  Be sure to include the Panther Safe-Skeg part number and your mailing address. There is not a Safe-Skeg listed for my motor. Are there other Safe-Skegs available? It is possible that one of the Safe-Skegs we have in stock will fit your motor. Please review the Safe-Skeg drawings on the website for measurements. Compare the measurements on the drawings to your skeg. If you are having difficulty with this, please contact Customer Service.  Be sure to have accurate measurements of your skeg.

Replacement keys are available, but you must have the key code to purchase replacement keys. The key code is a five digit numbered tag that was part of your original key set. If you do not have this key code, we will not be able to replace your keys.

1)     At the beginning of each season, grease the actuator with marine grease.  The grease zerk is located on the gear house casing that the motor is attached to.  Depending on usage, it may be necessary to add 3-4 pumps of grease in mid-season.  DO NOT PUT MORE THAN 4 PUMPS OF GREASE IN AT ANY TIME.

2)     Before storage, remove the set screw from the actuator and spray fogging oil into the cylinder.  This set screw is located on the long outer cylinder.  Replace the fitting by applying RTV to the threads and tighten securely.

Why does my actuator keep coming apart?

It is likely that the screw inside the Actuator is broken. It is not possible to repair an actuator, but a new one can be ordered here.  You will need to find the one that fits your specific bracket.

TROLLMaster

No, at least not at a level that will be noticed during operation. The TROLLMaster draws a negligible amount of current. However, there is a draw, and if your boat is in storage the TROLLMaster should be disconnected from the battery.

When trolling speed is set and the IDLE button is depressed, the TROLLMaster with throttle down to the idle position.  This feature is useful when you hook a fish while trolling—once a fish is hooked up, depress the IDLE button so you can maintain forward motion and keep the other lures in your spread from tangling, but at the same time not having to seal with full trolling speed while fighting the fish.

To resume trolling, press the IDLE button again, and the TROLLMaster will return to the exact throttle setting that was set previously.

This is the “Maximum Throttle” control. Upon depressing AND HOLDING DOWN the MAX THTL button on the remote you will immediately achieve approximately 70% of mechanical throttle. When you release the button you will return to your trolling speed. The intention is for a temporary boost of power to give extra life to your trolling spread, or to make a quick steering adjustment.

The TROLLMaster PRO has basic throttle control settings, which may be all the weekend or casual angler needs. But to really “dial-in” your speed, you cannot beat the throttle control offered by the PRO2 and PRO3. These systems have 10 times the throttle control of the PRO for those times when micro adjustments to your speed is the difference between catching limits and coming in with an empty fish box.

No, but installing a TROLLMaster requires basic tools and mechanical knowledge to install. We offer step-by-step install instructions with every product on an included CD. Or refer to our Installation Guide online to download the latest copy if available.  Also view an example install here.

No. TROLLMaster is water resistant but not submersible.

No.  The user must manually move the engine’s gear shift lever to go in and out of gear.

Yes. Complete control of throttle and steering can be accomplished by using the TROLLMaster PRO3 in conjunction with a Panther Electro Steer. NOTE: If this will be a NEW install of TROLLMaster AND Electro Steer, we now sell the Panther ElectroSteer without the electronics. Make sure the part number for the Electro Steer you order has NE at the end so you do not pay for an extra wiring harnesses!

EZ-Steer

Please contact us for help on this. Be prepared to provide specs for your motors—make, year, HP, and the distance from center to center of the two motors when in the down position. NOTE: When emailing, please include your phone number.

Angler's Pal

We have a kit available that will correct this problem. Contact us to obtain this kit.

It is possible, but you will need a longer ball fastener, nut, and the rubber clamp for the trolling motor. The ball pin of the ball lock will need to be removed before you install the rubber clamp.

Navigator

First, make sure that your battery is fully charged and all connections are good.  If the motor still does not run, disconnect the motor from the control module and hook the motor directly to the battery with jumper wires [you will have to make one, possibly using alligator clips]. If the motor runs forward and reverse with this set up, the problem is probably a bad control module or remote. If motor still does not run, it is likely that it needs to be repaired or replaced, and the unit should come back for evaluation, contact Customer Service for shipping instructions.

With a 2 or 3 blade Navigator installed on your outboard, you must take care not to make sharp turns while traveling at planing speed.  If you make a sharp turn while on plane, the prop blades on the Navigator will make contact with the surface and may snap off.  Always slow down before making any sharp turns.

The prop of your Navigator must be at least two inches below the waterline to work properly.

I have a black hose attached to my Actuator, what is that for?
This is a “breather tube”, and it must be installed upright inside the engine cowling in a manner that prevents water from getting inside of it.

Yes, all Titan Chain & Shackles are load-rated and proof-tested to ensure a strong and dependable product.

Rocna

We provide lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, and even against bending or deformation. Refer to the Warranty Page for more information.

While both the Rocna and Vulcan anchors offer extremely quick sets across a range of bottom types, they may require some modification to anchoring technique. Peter Smith, designer of Rocna and Vulcan, offers the following tips to optimize setting performance:

Shackle the anchor directly to the chain using a good quality load rated shackle. The shackle body passes through the shank, and the pin through the chain. Use the largest size shackle that the pin will fit through the chain. Rocna does not recommend swivels, as they can be a weak point, are generally not necessary, and for the Vulcan in particular can add too much weight to the end of the shank, impacting setting performance. Don’t drag the anchor while trying to set it. With the old generation Plough type anchors it was traditional to use lots of chain and drag them, usually some distance to get them to set, often on the second or third try. With Rocna and Vulcan, you want to avoid any pull before sufficient scope is paid out. When deploying the anchor drop out your scope at 5:1 (water depth + anchor roller above water X 5 ). Try not to drag the anchor before at least 3:1 is deployed. When deployed let the boats backward momentum and or wind set the anchor rather than engine power initially. Other than low rev’s to get the boat moving in the right direction don’t back down on the unset anchor with any power. You should feel the anchor start to set as the rode takes up. Only then by all means use some engine power to complete the set and reassure yourself it is in. However, I don’t recommend any more than 25% revs until the anchor has had a few hours to work itself in. If you do ever have to re-set the anchor always clean the old mud off first before redeploying – otherwise caked mud can interfere with subsequent sets.

The point of the above is to reduce build-up of substrate on the top edge of the shank in a soft bottom by dragging it before enough rode is deployed. The initial setting position of most modern anchors is on their sides and they don’t like being dragged any distance before this is attained.

If you are short on swinging room you can shorten scope to 3:1 after the anchor is set, and still have around 90% holding power. Let out more scope up to 7:1 if it starts blowing hard.

Use this technique, and you should get an instant set every time.

Motor forward retrieving rode until your bow is above the anchor. Typically a straight vertical pull will break the anchor loose. In the event that the anchor is difficult to break loose, either due to severe weather or a hard clay bottom, don’t bog down the windlass (or strain your back). Typically there will be some swell in the anchorage – every time the bow dips with the swell, take in a few inches of rode. After several cycles, the buoyancy of the boat will have worked the anchor loose and you can easily retrieve. In the event there is no swell, you can cleat off the rode and drive over the anchor with your motor to break it loose. This will be the exception, however – most of the time a straight vertical pull will do the trick.

The Vulcan was developed for boaters who wanted to enjoy the security and performance of a Rocna, but had difficulty fitting it on their bow due to interference with the roll bar. When designing the Vulcan, the design intent was to match the performance of the Rocna, and in our internal testing and feedback from customers, we believe we have achieved our goal. Therefore the question of Rocna or Vulcan is determined by which anchor fits better on your bow – in either case, you will enjoy the same quick sets, massive holding power, and reliable performance across the full range of bottom types.

We have several resources which can assist you in evaluating the fit on your boat.  Refer to the Anchor Fitment Guide, and if you have any questions please contact us.

Rocna is conservative in their ratings, basing them on 50 knots of wind and associated wave conditions. On this basis, you can refer to the sizing chart on our Fitment Guide, which recommends an appropriate size based on the length and displacement of your boat. If you have a multi-hull, we recommend going up one size from the sizing chart recommendation. If you have questions, please contact us.
